02-21-08 News Release - El Paso County Begins the Woodmen Road Expressway - Colorado Springs, Colo. (Feb. 21, 2008) -- El Paso County Board Chair Dennis Hisey officially marked the beginning of construction today, celebrating the start of the long-awaited Woodmen Road Expressway project.

02-08-08 Fact Sheet - The 6.2-mile capacity project extending from Powers Boulevard to US 24 will improve mobility, public safety and operational efficiency, reduce congestion and meet future travel demand on this rapidly developing commercial and residential corridor.

02-08-08 Project History - El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs identified Woodmen Road as one of the most important east-west corridors in the Pikes Peak region. The average daily traffic on Woodmen Road east of Powers Boulevard in 1999 was determined at over 20,000 vehicles -- far in excess of what a 2-lane “ranch to town” road could accommodate safely. With significant residential and commercial growth in the area of Falcon and surrounding areas, capacity and safety improvements are even more critical.
