Paving Operations May 9, 2008 through May 16, 2008 and Girder Placement May 21, 2008 through May 22, 2008 - Friday, May 9, 2008 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Paving operations will start Friday May 9, 2008 and will continue through Friday May 16, 2008 between US Highway 24 and Meridian Road. Drivers are asked to be alert and exercise caution in this area.

Starting on Wednesday May 21, 2008 through Thursday May 22, 2008, drivers on Woodmen Road may experience intermittent delays as girder placement begins on the Westbound Sand Creek Bridge just west of Marksheffel Road. Drivers are asked to be alert and exercise caution in this area. Flaggers will be onsite to help direct traffic.
 

Motorists are asked to focus their attention on safe driving through zones. Remember, in Colorado, the fines are doubled for most infractions that occur in a work zone.
Reduction in Speed for Duration of Project
Woodmen Road has been reduced from 55 to 40 miles per hour from Black Forest Road to Meridian Road.

Woodmen Road to Become
a Four-lane Expressway
El Paso County, with the Woodmen Road Metropolitan District, is widening Woodmen Road to four lanes. This project will tie already-completed safety and capacity issues together in an expressway solution.
This expressway solution will:

  • Widen Woodmen Road to a four-lane expressway with limited access points from east of Powers Boulevard to US 24.
  • Relocate utility corridors to outside roadway improvements.
  • Phase construction to maintain existing traffic flow.
  • Ensure business and residential access during construction.
